About the event
The “Clean Cities, Clean Nation” initiative began with an impactful clean-up session at the Esplanade in Penang. Held in collaboration between Yayasan Modal Insan Harta and Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP), the event gathered over 40 volunteers who came together to clean areas around Padang Kota, Green Hall, Love Lane, Bishop Street and Union Street.
Armed with gloves, baskets and a shared sense of responsibility, the group collected around 80 kilograms of waste, including plastic packaging, food containers and general litter. Their efforts helped bring back a sense of order and cleanliness to some of the city’s most well-known streets.
Puan Rashidah Jalaludin, Director of Municipal Services at MBPP, also took part in the clean-up, showing the council’s strong support for community-based environmental efforts.
This event marked the beginning of the “Clean Cities, Clean Nation” campaign, which focuses on cleaner public spaces, stronger community involvement and long-term sustainability through partnerships between local authorities, civil society and the private sector.
